Security in educational institutions goes beyond traditional measures, encompassing a multilayered, multifactor approach that combines technology, personnel training, and emergency preparedness.

According to the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS), an independent group dedicated to improving school safety, there are five layers of protection to consider: districtwide, property perimeter, parking lot perimeter, building perimeter, and classroom or interior perimeter.

Policies should be applied identically across all public buildings within the school district. Strong written policies can ensure that people know what to do in an emergency and can support security professionals in their efforts to drive compliance with essential safeguards and accountability. 

To be effective, policies centered on preparedness and prevention, as well as response and recovery, need to be woven into the fabric of the school community.

Hudson River Housing Security Guard was arrested for selling cocaine at the shelter. This behavior is deplorable, clearly the screening process for hiring security staff needs to be looked at. 

My firm thoroughly screens and trains our guards to uphold the mission and values of NEXGEN Protection Services, we  do not tolerate any violations to our code of conduct.

Target-hardening at schools has been a hot topic in the United States, especially as mass shootings continue and school administrators take on a more active role in security. 

Schools started adding bulletproof windows and desks, stronger locks on doors, alarm systems that directly communicate with law enforcement, and artificial intelligence (AI) enabled camera systems, among other target hardening techniques. They have conducted drills and established better emergency response plans.

Federal supply chain security is a protocol that monitors the risks of contracting with external logistics, transportation, suppliers, and vendors. These government measures safeguard the distribution of products and services from theft, terrorism, and cyberattacks.

Physical security is just as important as cybersecurity because it protects the business’ assets, facilities, employees, and workers. Implementing it means keeping buildings, warehouses, transportation routes, and other necessary infrastructure safe from theft, damage, and people with ill intentions. This practice applies to government clients and vendors.
