Provide training about the ways to spot deepfakes, and foster a culture of skepticism,

Deepfakes can cause financial and reputational damage to your organization.

Cybersecurity and fraud prevention are inextricably intertwined. Most organizations have robust firewalls, secure operating systems and intrusion detection systems. Deepfakes bypass these preventative firewalls through social engineering techniques.

Individuals receive an email from a seemingly reputable source requesting employees give up sensitive information over email. Once this information is provided, hackers infiltrate company’s databases extracting sensitive information.

Educate your employees about the existence of deepfakes. Provide training about the ways to spot deepfakes, and foster a culture of skepticism, similar to the way that employees are now on guard for phishing emails.

Sidewalk bollards prevent and protect the public from being injured by vehicles nearby.

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Bollards installed on sidewalks and around the perimeter of buildings are an essential way to keep everyone safe. A bollard is a short vertical post used to separate pedestrians or streetscape elements from vehicles.

There are too many accidents where you see a vehicle crashed inside of a storefront because there was nothing there to stop it. Bollards can stop someone in a vehicle intent on inflicting harm to people that are just going out and enjoying their day.

Holy places, shrines, cathedrals, synagogues, mosques, megachurches and schools are no longer safe. Nothing seems to be sacred.

Houses of worship are now targets of vandalism, theft and attacks.

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Holy places, shrines, cathedrals, synagogues, mosques, megachurches and schools are no longer safe. Nothing seems to be sacred.

Antisemitism has skyrocketed over the past few years. Bigotry continues toward followers of Islam. Conflicts between spiritual beliefs and mainstream culture have also created tension.

Many are assessing their security needs to ensure that the congregation has peace of mind. In doing so they can continue to learn, reflect, pray and celebrate in safety and comfort.

Ways to Defuse a Potentially Dangerous Situations

Ways to Defuse a Potentially Dangerous Situations

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

The unfortunate state-of-affairs surrounding safety and security throughout the country about hostile events has increased in all industries over the years.

Security Details follow these five strategies to defuse a situation from becoming violent.

  1. Scan for signs of tension.

In order to de-escalate conflict, security officers must first be aware of what that conflict might look like. Raised voices or facial expressions change as anger rises. Brows furrow, lips tend to form a thin line, nostrils flare and the face also may blush and turn redder as anger builds. You may also spot tension in the body with clenched fists, stiff shoulders and even sweating. All of these physical signs may indicate that a situation is heating up and requires intervention.

  1. Establish authority and intention.

It’s important to calm those involved without having to take any additional measures. Defusing a situation before it becomes a problem is far superior to reacting to violence as it occurs.

  1. Be calm in your voice and demeanor.

Approach the situation directly, but calmly. Speak with a calm authority. Clearly outline the policy of the event or venue.

  1. Show them that you’re listening.

Active listening is a great tool to help those around you understand that they are being heard.

  1. Define a resolution.

Effectively work through a resolution to make sure things don’t escalate again. The resolution may be that both parties must be removed from the area, facility or event in order to maintain safety.

No two conflicts are alike, and different strategies may be needed in order to resolve that specific dispute. Defusing the situation should be the first step before using other tactics that may intensify a potentially dangerous situation further. Security guards are specifically trained to handle potentially dangerous situations while keeping people safe and secure.

Situational Crime Prevention (SPC) is a Primary Prevention Measure

Situational Crime Prevention (SPC) is a Primary Prevention Measure

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Situational crime prevention (SCP) is a primary prevention strategy that aims to reduce the likelihood and severity of crime by making it more difficult for criminals to commit acts or by reducing the rewards. SCP focuses on changing the situation rather than the characteristics of criminals.

SCP is based on two theoretical premises: opportunity theory, which states that opportunity makes the thief, and rational choice theory, which states that offenders make choices. SCP techniques can fall into five main categories:

Increasing risk – This can be done by reducing the number of suitable targets, adding guardians, or increasing surveillance.

Reducing rewards – This can be done by making it harder for criminals to climb buildings or structures, or by using anti-theft paint to identify stolen items.

Reducing provocations – This can be done by removing excuses that offenders may use to justify their actions.

Removing excuses – This can be done by sloping seats at bus shelters to prevent people from sleeping on them.

Increasing effort – This can be done by improving street lighting.

Protecting Precious Cargo Throughout the Supply Chain

Protecting Precious Cargo Throughout the Supply Chain

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Stolen cargo can cost suppliers thousands to upwards of millions of dollars. The consequences of not sufficiently protecting cargo can be devastating, ranging from financial loss and damaged reputation to long-term, intricate legal disputes. And, today’s thieves are now highly tech-savvy and constantly developing modern ways and strategies to steal cargo from shippers.

Most theft crimes are not investigated because of manpower issues, so it is imperative that carriers take the necessary measures to prevent theft. Provide security training to all personnel, because everyone should be involved with protecting customer freight and company assets.

New Normal: Armed Security Guards In Schools

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

The Kansas City School system already has armed security guards in the middle and high schools. The school is now looking for their community’s perspective on adding armed security guards to elementary schools.

It is important for students’ parents and staff to feel safe. The upside to the security detail is that they can often get to an incident much faster than law enforcement since they are on mobile patrols already.

Security-A-Small-Price-to-Pay-to-Protect-our-Community

Security: A Small Price to Pay to Protect our Community

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Cambridge City Council unanimously agreed to hire five full-time security guards with a mobile detail to improve community safety.

This is a small price to pay for taking care of our community, keeping it safe, and keeping it clean.

Communities are seeing vandalism of storefronts, community parks, and in our neighborhoods. Securing a mobile security team helps deter lawlessness by simply being visible. Security details make a big impact in deterring vandalism and damage.

There is a savings by hiring a security patrol, as the number of after hour incidents declines. This in turn results in fewer instances of having to send out law enforcement officers as well as the costs of cleaning up vandalism or damage. It also frees up law-officers to engage with our community and other aspects of keeping our streets safe.

Detecting-threats-in-train-stations-without-compromising-citizens-privacy.

Detecting threats in train stations without compromising citizens’ privacy.

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Surface transportation such as subway systems can be a unique security challenge due to the large crowds of travelers and the open, unstructured environment. Public safety officials (including mass transit operators, mass transit police, and state and federal law enforcement teams) need a capability to detect potential threat items on persons and in bags without negatively impacting the speed of travel.

How do we detect terror threats in train stations without searching people or compromising their privacy?

A video algorithm detects bags left behind and cutting-edge video forensic tools are some of the technologies used to secure train stations and protect the traveling public.
