The Presence of Security is Still The Best Deterrent to Crime

The Presence of Security is Still The Best Deterrent to Crime

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

CVS, Target and other chains have barricaded everything from toiletries to cleaning supplies. It’s backfired in almost every way. Different products experience different theft rates, depending on store location and other factors.

Beyond the financial impact of these crimes, the violence and concerns over safety continue to be the priority for all retailers. Professional security services is a strong deterrent, forcing criminals to think twice before they try to steal something. Security guards also handle vandalism and disturbances, ensuring customers’ shopping experience remains peaceful.

Responsibilities For School Security

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Among the most important responsibilities are maintaining a visible presence and building trust. Another important responsibility includes touring the campus frequently.

High-risk areas that have been identified—such as locker rooms, bathrooms, isolated hallways or stairways, portable classrooms, playing fields, other out-buildings, and/or isolated areas of the building grounds—are potential trouble spots.

Sidewalk bollards prevent and protect the public from being injured by vehicles nearby.

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Bollards installed on sidewalks and around the perimeter of buildings are an essential way to keep everyone safe. A bollard is a short vertical post used to separate pedestrians or streetscape elements from vehicles.

There are too many accidents where you see a vehicle crashed inside of a storefront because there was nothing there to stop it. Bollards can stop someone in a vehicle intent on inflicting harm to people that are just going out and enjoying their day.

Holy places, shrines, cathedrals, synagogues, mosques, megachurches and schools are no longer safe. Nothing seems to be sacred.

Houses of worship are now targets of vandalism, theft and attacks.

Antisemitism has skyrocketed over the past few years. Bigotry continues toward followers of Islam. Conflicts between spiritual beliefs and mainstream culture have also created tension.

Many are assessing their security needs to ensure that the congregation has peace of mind. In doing so they can continue to learn, reflect, pray and celebrate in safety and comfort.

Organized retail crime (ORC) has become widespread. Artificial Intelligence, AI-based cameras with advanced analytics can extend the reach of loss prevention specialists by accurately alerting staff to certain behaviors such as loitering of people and vehicles.

Retailers have become increasingly vulnerable to riots and looting.

Retailers have become increasingly vulnerable to riots and looting.

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Businesses must strike a balance between providing a seamless shopping experience and implementing robust security measures.

Modern surveillance systems incorporate high-resolution cameras that provide clear, detailed footage of your store. AI-powered surveillance can identify suspicious activity, track customer movements, and even analyze customer behavior to optimize store layouts and product placements.

Staying updated with these technologies is not just a matter of protecting your assets; it’s about providing a secure, enjoyable shopping experience for your customers.

Protecting Precious Cargo Throughout the Supply Chain

Protecting Precious Cargo Throughout the Supply Chain

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Stolen cargo can cost suppliers thousands to upwards of millions of dollars. The consequences of not sufficiently protecting cargo can be devastating, ranging from financial loss and damaged reputation to long-term, intricate legal disputes. And, today’s thieves are now highly tech-savvy and constantly developing modern ways and strategies to steal cargo from shippers.

Most theft crimes are not investigated because of manpower issues, so it is imperative that carriers take the necessary measures to prevent theft. Provide security training to all personnel, because everyone should be involved with protecting customer freight and company assets.

Do-autonomous-security-guard-robots-provide-the-protection-you-need

Do autonomous security guard robots provide the protection you need?

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Robots are a low cost alternative to meeting the unique challenges of on site security. They patrol the hallways, vigilant for signs of trouble – and report their findings to a human-staffed call center.

These robots are equipped with a depth camera, heat-detecting thermal sensors, 4K cameras that can see 360 degrees, as well as a Microphone array for listening and PA system for announcing.

It’s not all smooth sailing. Security robots have had their share of mishaps, from minor accidents to malfunctioning in critical situations. And there’s the human factor to consider.

For now, human intelligence is still the most effective means of deterring and mitigating threats in the workplace.

Making Safety and Security Intrinsic In Our Schools

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

People often feel safer in a physical space that has been updated and secured. Safety planning requires us to look at all layers involved, including technology, equipment, processes, procedures, and training.

The most effective security programs can enable seamless additions of new security capabilities and resources to support expanding operations. This can include adding new security technologies, increasing the number of security personnel, or expanding security coverage to new locations or business units.

Why Construction Sites Need Proactive Security

Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services –

Construction sites are undoubtedly one of the most challenging environments to protect from a security perspective. Construction sites are a virtual free-for-all with multiple points of entry and exits with various contractors and subcontractors coming and going at different times throughout the day.

Without proactive security measures in place, construction sites are at risk from thieves attracted to goods. From materials, tools, equipment and even fuel, thieves can be enticed by open construction sites. These open sites are also at risk of vandalism.
