armed guard is very serious business

Hiring an armed guard is very serious business. Well established rules and regulations are strictly followed regarding the use of force.

A man is dead after he was shot and killed in a Lowe’s parking lot by a security guard in the East Columbia Neighborhood, in Portland, Or.

This is a very bad day for all the actors involved. The man shot dead will never have an opportunity to spend to with his family. The security guard who shot the man, may be held accountable for this shooting. The security guard’s freedom could be in jeopardy. And  the company that employs the guard, may go out of business. It is not know whether or not the guard was properly insured to do armed security. — Frank Costa, Nexgen Security Guard Protection Services.

Invest in Top Security Agents to Protect You While Out Shopping

Frank Costa, President of NEXGEN Protection Security —

Companies like Home Depot have a Loss prevention Department and employee the use of Loss Prevention Agents/Store Security, to apprehend shoplifters.

Many times, Loss prevention Agents deal with aggressive shoplifters who refuse to cooperate. These characters may even assault the security agent. On occasion, shoplifters are armed, like this shoplifter who was carrying at a Home Depot in Chicago. Agents must be well trained to make quick decisions, and at times disarm the shoplifter before any harm can come to the customers.

As a customer, you too can do your part in making our community more secure. If you see something, make a mental note of what is happening, write it down immediately. You are a witness to a crime. An accurate assessment is critical to help law enforcement conduct a thorough investigation. We all need to do what we can to make our world a safer place to live and work.

The Need for Security to Offset Losses from Employee Theft, more desperate people are resorting to theft in the United States.

The Need for Security to Mitigate Losses from Employee Theft

The Need for Security

“Due to the nature of retail, companies face many exposures to losses.
Generally retail companies suffer loss in (3) three ways:

  1. External (shoplifting/fraudulent returns),
  2. Paper loss (accounting errors),
  3. And internal (employee misappropriation).

In general, the most exposure to loss is due to dishonest employees. They know the internal process and can find ways to circumvent the internal audit program. Having a well trained investigator who can identify unusual activity, and who is an expert in interviewing shoplifters, can mitigate much of the losses from employe misappropriation.”

Assault on Security

“A place like a library is generally deemed ‘safe place’. Providing an unarmed security guard to a public venue, is like placing a band aid on wound that requires stitches. The guard should be properly trained to deescalate first but be ready to use necessary force & tools (firearm) to disable the threat.  Unfortunately in this case, the guard didn’t have the proper tools and she tragically lost her life doing her job.” — Frank Costa, President Nexgen Protection Services.

Getting Back To Work: Protecting Your Employees From COVID-19

Getting Back To Work: Protecting Your Employees From COVID-19

Many Americans are getting ready to go back to work, but they want to know that they are going to be safe. Employers need to take every precaution to protect their employees from contracting the coronavirus.

Employers must put in place preventative measures for interactions between staff and the public. The CDC’s recommendations for cleaning and disinfecting the workplace should be implemented prior to opening back up for business.

Personal protective equipment for staff must be provided as well as methods and best practices for maintain social distancing in the workplace. Additionally, sick leave policies and practices should be supportive and flexible to ensure a healthy environment in and outside the workplace.

To prevent and mitigate the risk of transmitting the coronavirus, routine staff screening is necessary. All efforts taken to safeguard the workplace must ensure that the privacy of individuals personal health information is protected.

Although not fool-proof, many businesses are adopting a non-invasive thermal scan. Employees with a temperature reading above 100.4 Fahrenheit are sent home. An individual with an elevated temperature should undergo standard novel coronavirus screening.

Workers with possible COVID-19 should work with their local and state health departments to coordinate testing. The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved testing is free to all eligible New Yorkers.

Symptoms of the coronavirus typically experience a fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Some people infected with the virus have reported experiencing other non-respiratory symptoms. Not all novel coronavirus patients exhibit symptoms, in fact asymptomatic carriers are still able to spread the virus (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

“Everyone needs to get back to work, that said, no one wants to put themselves at risk. As we re-open our doors, organizations need to protect their employees. A thermal scan is critical to mitigating the dangers of COVID-19.” – Frank Costa, President NEXGEN Protection Services.

To reduce the impact of COVID-19 outbreak conditions it is important for all employers to implement policies and procedures that:

  • Prompt identification and isolation of potentially infectious individuals to protect workers, customers, visitors, and others at a worksite.
  • Educate and encourage employees to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Implement policies and procedures for employees to report when they are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

NEXGEN Protection Screening Services

NEXGEN Protection Services announces a new non-invasive screening service for employers.

NEXGEN Announces New Thermographic Screening Service Protecting Employees From Coronavirus Infections

NEXGEN Protection Services announces a new non-invasive screening service for employers. Business needs to open back up safely, while not perfect, thermal screening is capable of reading people’s temperatures from as far as 15 feet.

It’s an option that provides businesses with some level of oversight and control. Symptoms typically include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Some people infected with the virus have reported experiencing other non-respiratory symptoms. Not all novel coronavirus patients exhibit symptoms, in fact asymptomatic carriers are still able to spread the virus (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

Online retail giant Amazon uses thermal cameras to do temperature checks at many of its operations facilities as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees with a temperature reading above 100.4 Fahrenheit are sent home. After three days workers are permitted back as long as their temperature is normal. Amazon adopted this policy drawing upon guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control.

“Thermal screening is not foolproof, because there are people who carry the disease without a temperature.  As we re-open our doors, organizations need to be prepared to mitigate the dangers of COVID-19 to protect the well-being of their employees.” – Frank Costa, President NEXGEN Protection Services.

Secondary screening procedures are recommended by the FDA. An individual with an elevated temperature should undergo standard novel coronavirus screening. Workers with possible COVID-19 should work with their local and state health departments to coordinate testing through public health laboratories.

Worker Protections
The public needs to have a sense of security and safety while going back to work. To reduce the impact of COVID-19 outbreak conditions it is important for all employers to plan now:

  • Prompt identification and isolation of potentially infectious individuals is a critical step in protecting workers, customers, visitors, and others at a worksite.
  • Employers should inform and encourage employees to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 if they suspect possible exposure.
  • Employers should develop policies and procedures for employees to report when they are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Provide adequate, usable, and appropriate training, education, and informational material about business-essential job functions and worker health and safety, including proper hygiene practices and the use of any workplace controls (including PPE).

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) permits broad data sharing by covered entities for key health care purposes without requiring affirmative patient consent as long as the disclosure of Personal Health Information (PHI) is the minimum necessary to protect the public’s health.

It’s critical that we all continue to adhere to State and local guidance as well as recommendations from the CDC. We are all in this together.

Safety & Security

Pandemic, protests and civil unrest can overwhelm an organization. Is your business prepared to open back up?
